My wife and I just recently purchased a 2012 explorer. We have 2 keys, and I purchased a blank and had it cut, and am looking to program it to work with the vehicle. I've done some searching, including forums on this site, but haven't been able to find instructions for newer explorers. What would the process/procedure be for this?

Hi billybobed and welcome to the Forum.:salute:

With regards to your search, have you checked page #148 of your owners guide?

2015 Program Spare Key

Just purchased Base Explorer. I was surprised it didn't come with a valet key like my 2010 F-150. A local locksmith cut an 80 bit blank and tried two different programming sequences that didn't work. My original keys are stamped with the letters SA which his computer says call for an 80 bit blank saying Ford has changed their keys. I would appreciate any help with the programming sequence. Also, are the 2014 keys and programming the same as 2015.

Programming instructions can be found on page 86 of the 2015 Owner's Guide, second printing.
I don't believe there have been any programming changes/instructions for the keys since the 2011 model came out.

And they must be followed to a "T". I have heard of experiences where people have claimed they are doing it right but in the end they messed something up.
