I have a pre-production Ford Explorer. It's manufacture date is 4/90. I've had it since november 91 as it's second owner. It has several modifications which I'll post later.

Welcome to the site 90_Prototype!

Sounds like you have an interesting and unique Explorer. Love to see some pics. Here's a link you may like to check out: http://www.explorer4x4.com/1stexplorer.html It's an interesting article on the beginning of the truck we have all grown to love. Your Explorer wouldn't happen to be a black Eddie Bauer would it?;)

Welcome and happy postin' buddy!:)

I would like to see some pics of you explorer. Is there any change that they made from your to the 91? I would like to know alittle about your truck. lata

The body is essentially the same as the 91. For some reason, I don't seem to have any pictures of it laying around. The differences are mainly mechanical. The front axle is a prototype for the version they used on 91 and later with the I-beam style suspension, and has unique gears. I know this because I had to replace the spider, and a exact replacement doesn't exist. So I had one fabricated instead. It currently has a 4" Rancho suspension lift on it. It runs on 235/75/15 Cooper Discoverer LTs. Now that my old pickup has finally given up the ghost, I'll be swapping the half ton running gear under it. That's a dana 44f and a 9" rear, with ladder bars that I have yet to build. Not sure how I'll spring the back end yet.

Welcome Aboard!

I'd like to see some photos of it. I'm always interested in odd factory stuff. My truck was a FoMoCo vehicle at one point, but I don't know what it was used for. Anyway, I know there are some 90 BroncoII's running around with 4.0's. However, I'm still trying to chase one down. I also came across an 91 in a salvage yard with a Dana 28 front end. Not sure if it was swapped in but the truck had some odd stuff on it.

By the way, Welcome to the Board!!!, you will find anythin you need to know here. Have fun. lata
