Proven things to increase mpg's?

Well, last time I checked, the Explorer wasn't covered in golf ball dimples. If you read the link you posted, it states that the clean car got 26mpg as opposed to 24mpg for the dirty car. Care to try again ;)

2. Over inflate your tires by 10%...

Pretty sure that the amount you'll spend on prematurely worn tires will eclipse your fuel savings over time. Plus your handling will be affected.

Coming from a Fusion Hybrid and hanging out on hyper mile forums, these are the ones that are the easiest to do:

1. Inflating the tires to maximum pressure (on the sidewall of the tire) yielded me an additional 10% improvement in fuel economy.

2. Maintaining throttle position, not speed, improved my fuel efficiency by another 5%. Keep in mind that this concept means you could go over the speed limit downhill and go slower up hill. You have to find the sweet spot on the gas peddle with this technique.

3. NASCAR drafting techniques - anytime you could slipstream behind a truck will yield big results (20%-30% better fuel economy). Most folks, and the truckers, don't like people doing this.

IDK, I drove from Sedona, AZ to Las Vegas, NV, cruise control set to 85MPH, some in town driving, 22.5MPG. I've got the six, not four. Happy with that! Now, not happy that I had to replace the battery today after having the vehicle for only three or four weeks. (dealers are closed on Sunday and I needed the car)
