Has anyone here found a way to install a Power Take Off on their Ex. If you dont know what it is, it bumps the idle up to like 2500 or so, just above idle, so if you need more engine power for certain duties. Most trucks that have them use it when they're using something hydraulic that would cause a alot of drag on the motor.

I searched and came up empty handed. I was thinking about getting a manual choke cable and attaching it to the throttle cable close to the throttle body. I just would like to have the engine running a bit quicker if im doing something like using my truck to jump start my dads semi, using all the lighting for some kind of recovery operation, or using the winch and such. So i think it would be useful. So has anyone seen, installed or heared of someone doing something like this, and what do you think of my idea?

Search for "hand throttle", there's a thread here someplace...

....I relate PTO's as being related to farm equipment and not a throttle enhancement..:dunno:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_take_off

..I thought someone here added a true PTO to their vehicle and posted bout it a number of years back and I do know they were used on military vehicles..

..For bumping your throttle up, another item to search would be "thumb throttle"..;)

A PTO is exactly what you called it, a power take off. Its something that draws its power from the engine and has nothing to do with increasing the idle. The increased idle is done electrically or mechanically, but they are separate systems that are usually used together.
Older carb engines had a idle up solenoid that pushed the throttle open a little when the AC compressor kicked in... You may be able to adapt one of them. Or just do the bike shifter (thumb throttle) thats mentioned above.

Yea, after reading the wikipedia page, i see that i was wrong. I just know sometimes when i was driving dump trucks and stuff, to dump the bed i had to hit the PTO switch, and the idle bumped up, and i was assuming it was for a belt driven hydraulic pump. My bad.

I searched for the "Hand Throttle" thread and yielded no results, was that the title of the thread? And Ill search for the thumb throttle.

Hey, 525, Thank you for the links. Now i have one last question, is theres something special i need to do when i search, because i clicked on the search tab and just typed in hand throttle and i didnt get anything with that title. Or should i use the advanced search or something?
