2019 Explorer Platinum
Hi, I am new to this forum. We have a 2019 Explorer Platinum we've had for 4 1/2 years. I recently got the wrench light and took it to the dealer for diagnosis. The said it looked like a rodent chewed through the PTU Temp sensor cable and wanted $645 to repair it. I'd like to know if I can just reconnect the wires and call it good? Has anyone ever experienced this issue?

Thnaks for your assistance

Unless the wires shorted and need other components replaced, I don't see why the wires can't just be reconnected.
Which part of the wire was chewed through? Was it between the sensor and the connector, or between the connector and the ECU?
If the former, the sensor is only $100, but I believe you need to pull down the rear catalytic converter to access it.
$645 seems excessive if it's just replacing the sensor.

Thanks for your reply. Unfortuntately the break is between the connector and the ECU. I think the wire on the connector is very short. Not sure if I could find another connector with more wire to make the connection

Depending on how handy you are, you can probably pull the terminals out of the connector and put a new/longer length of wire in there.

I don't know the inner workings of that specific connector, but I'm guessing if you pull the white + shaped piece out from inside the connector, the terminals will pull out from the back.

Again, that's just a guess and proceed at your own risk, but that's a fairly common way terminals are locked into the connector.
