I need help pulling out the factory cd/radio/cassett from my '02 Sport to put in a new head unit. Does the trim panel just pull off? Any tricks on how to do this? Also, what needs to be done to bypass the factory amp (what needs to be opened up)? I already have the adapters.

Are there any other websites out there that have instruction/pictures of how to install car audio? I used to like www.installdr.com , but it looks like it hasnt been updated in a few years.

Thanks!

Just un-screw the 2 screws in the very bottom underneath the bezel and it should come right out. Welcome to the forum. Also watch all the wires that are connected everywhere.

How about pulling the radio though? Do I need the "Ford tool", or is there another way? Also, how about by-passing the factory amp? What is involved in doing this (what do I need to open up in the rear to gain access so I can put the by-pass adapter in)? Is there a sure-fire way to know if there is even an amp back there without opening everything up?

Thanks again.

No you don't need to take off the surround on your Sport. You just need the radio removal keys. Only the 4-doors have to remove the surround. I think the amp is in the headunit so there should be nothing to by-pass.

Edited to say that the "Ford tool" sucks. :thumbdwn:

i know its a little late.
If you are talking about the two holes on eack side of the head unit that requires a "special tool" for removal dont buy one.
Take a metal coat hanger and cut off the ends so you have a piece about 12-14inchs long. Then just bend it into a U shape and insert the ends into the holes on each side (one side at a time,or just make 2 of the metal U's).
Works great and it costs you nothing.

I was a sucker and paid Ford $10 for basically a U shaped coat hanger. I think I'll go return it today! :chug:
