To make a long story short, I've been looking for a 4x4 explorer for my G/f for a while now so she can get to class in the winter time. All the ones she had liked where around 5k and had a lot of miles on them.

After some searching we came across a black '00 sport w/ 114k on it and bought it for $2500 yesterday. Truck has new brakes, exhaust, shocks. keypad entry, overhead console, moonroof, fogs, full power, .... pretty much everything except leather, lol. The only catch you ask??? It has the chain rattle. Good think I'm a ford technician, lol.

We're gonna take it in this morning so I can get to cracking on it and get it ready for her. I'll try and get some pics of it. Overall it's a very clean truck. Has some rust along the lower tailgate edge and the lower driver door.

Glad to be a part of the forum :D

Welcome!! Wish I had a Ford tech available ot me!!!

Yeah, I work for the local Ford dealership. I've been there over four years, since I graduated from LTI. This seems like a very informative and friendly forum... definately glad I found it!! Hopefully I'll be able to contribute some info here and there

Next week I'll be removing the engine to do the front and rear cassettes as well as the tensioners, and replace the rh converter (it has a little rattle), replace a wheel bearing that's getting a little noise, and replace the upper control arms and do an alignment. Trying to get ahead on the maintenance items so I don't have to worry about the G/F getting stranded, lol.

Hello All; New member and owner of a 01 Sport. Bought it for my son to use while in college really clean at 97k miles. The signal light was not working thought it would be a bulb or fuse, no such luck; any ideas? Have running lights on both sides but signal and brake only on the left. Can't give it to my son until I get this fixed.

welcome henry

Is the Multi-switch (turnsignal arm) install a DIY'r?

I don't have a manual yet but from what I have been reading it sounds like my problem with the rear brake/signal light may either be from loose wires under the cover on the column at the switch or a bad switch.

Anybody replaced one of these turnsignal arms?

Henry, the multi function switch is pretty simple to replace. Once you removed the steering column covers its pretty straightforward.

Once you have the covers off, before you replace the switch, inspect the two hard shells (plugs) going into the switch. Alot of the times some of the retaining "tabs" in the plastic shell will break and allow one or more of the wires to back out of the shell and lose contact, thus loosing your turn signal, brake, etc..... really depends on which wires back out.

To remove the column covers is also pretty simple. There are, I believe, 3 phillips head screws in the bottom cover, going into the top cover. You will need a longer phillips screw driver to reach them, and will have to look up from the bottom w/ a light to see them.

Good luck! And let me know what you find out.

I got the covers off and sure enough there was a wire that had pulled out of the plug housing. Set in place with needle nose pliers and applied a liberal amount of RTV to set and provide some much needed stress relief; problem cured. Thanks.
