On the universities racecar team, they have 3 racecars, and all of them have push button starters. I got the privilage of wiring the one for the Honda CRX, and its not terribly difficult. For the racecar, since pretty much the only electionic things we use are the brake lights, a couple blowers, fuel pump, and gauges, it was easy. You need to wire a switch to control the ignition, on or off. This is what your keys do. In order to do the one that JC whitney offers, you have to put your keys in and turn them to the 'on' position, that powers up your ignition and other accesories. Then the button just turns your starter on or off. With the racecars, we have different switches to control things such as blowers, fuel pump, ignition, etc. If you had the time, you could wire your car to have a switch or two to control the ignition and accesories, and then just a simple button to control the starter motor. Then you wouldn't need keys. But then if someone knew about this, and wanted to steal you X, they could do so fairly easily. On the outside of our racecars, we have a master power on/off key/switch, that must be on in order to start or run the car. Its a big red plastic key. Hope this helps a little, and it should be a lot cheaper to wire a couple switches and a button than Whitney's $70 price tag...
