putting in new brakes

Gotta put in new front brakes. I've been trying to find suggestions (with prices) cause I figure I could do a better job than the guys at the brake shop. 94xlt. Any help on brands/items?

I forget what brand they are but I haven't had any problems with the Semi-metallic pads Autozone sells. They were somewhere around $30 a pair.
