Putting up the 20"s for Winter...

Why dont you run down to Home Depo and buy a roll or two of that Pink Panther rolled up wall insulation and wrap them in that or lay the insulation on the ground lay all the tires in a row on top of that and then put insulation on top of them too and wrap it up that way.
If you have to stack them for room purposes just put a layer of insulation inbetween each tire and rim.
or insulate them and then bag them.

Do this in addition to your waxing and all the other stuff.

just a suggestion.

Now you tell me. The stockers have been stacked in the gurage all summer! So one tire is been on the ground all summer. Oh, well we'll see how it looks saturday.

Yeah I am curious to know. my dad has always put his on something because he said he was told concrete would dry out the tire. Let me know your finding

you guys are making this way, WAY more complex than it needs to be. just friggin' stack 'em in the garage. yes, concrete does weird things, but 98% of dry-rot is from sunlight. any added "drying" from leaving them on a concrete floor will be canceled out by the fact that they will be worn out before they will ever be rotted.

Dont forget to mark where the wheels were so when you put them back on in the spring you can rotate them. I forgot to mark my stocks. Oh well, guess I'll just look at them and make and ejakaded guess.

are you guys putting your stocks on because of the snow or the cold weather, is it ok to leave them on if you stay down south.

It's the salt that kills the wheels. if they don;t use salt by you, then you might just as well leave them on.

In Arizona we replace our aluminum rims with steel rims when summer starts. That's to keep the aluminum from melting in the desert heat:p

 I'd rather have to change them because of cold weather. How hot does it get???

It gets so hot we have lizards that carry sticks around so that they can plant the stick in the ground and climb up in order to keep their feet off the desert floor. Now that's hot!

I just took my 20s off for the winter too. I think I'm going to clean then up and build a coffee table with them

Alright, Rick. You got me the first time when I had been out all night with some friends. Was a little drunk that night. But, common, give me some credit, I know lizards dont climb up on sticks, they wear sneakers for cryin' out loud!

Anyway, I put my stock wheels back on today and what a difference! They ride better but dont handle or grip worth a damn. (I can have more fun with my 2wd now tho :D )
BAD NEWS: I messed up one of my wheels when I was taking it off. One of the lugs was giving me a hard time so I took out the persuasion bar and cranked on it. Well I guess I didnt have the socket totally on the lug and it slipped off and dug into the wheel. Took the clearcoat and paint right off. What can I do to keep it from oxidizing or whatever it does. Ya know, it gets all white and crusty and starts to bubble sorta. The scratch is inside the hole where the lug goes so its not too noticable. Do I need to paint it or what?

I love that old lizard joke... I made up the aluminum rim joke on the fly :p

If it's one of your summer wheels that got marked I'd just go to a local speed shop and find out who refinished rims and have it repaired over the winter
