I'm still planning on replacing my Slave since it went bad right after paying to have it replaced. I haven't had good enough weather to pull the tranny out yet. I was able to get the old parts from the mechanic. I got the old slave and it appears that the throwout bearing is attached at the end of the slave. Is this correct, and is it removable? I want to know if I can take the throwout bearing off of the new/bad slave to see it it's good and to see if the slave leaked behind it. Does that make sense? Does the throwout bearing need special lube? I wonder if the mechanic didn't lube it?

i don't know much about slave cylinders. i know you can replace the throw-out bearing because a clutch kit comes with a new one and they are individually sold. since i converted my auto to a manual, i just bought a new slave and master cylinder, and the new slave cylinder came pre-filled and pre-bled. it had a new throw-out bearing on it, and was ready to bolt in. It was only $55 at o'reilly's auto parts, which seems well worth it since these are a PITA to bleed. hope this advice helps.

Question: How easy is it to remove a throwout bearing from the slave? Should it come right off, or do I need a tool?

If a slave went bad (brand new) could that be due to a bearing problem? (does the bearing provide any seal?)

Thanks!
