I just bought my son a 97 XLT for graduation. (as a matter of fact, I'm picking it up in a couple of hours). He had a 97 Ranger with aftermarket 17" wheels, and 245/45/17 tires. If we put those tires on his Explorer, (assuming they will fit), will the speedo be off, and if so, what do I need to do, to correct it?
Thanks

I dunno about the speedo being off but you could just replace your speedo gear, a small plastic gear and that would solve the problem if it is off.

Yes the speedo will definitely be off. Those tires are 25.7" high. Explorer tires are either 29" or 30". Unless he wants it to look like a power wheels I suggest not putting them on.

Get 285/60 or 275/60...they won't mess with ur speedo really at all....That's what I got they measure 30.5" no rubbing at all.

haha, i didn't do the math but you are right, haha, that would be funny looking

hey there-

well here is what I have to say.... without the explorer being lowered the 245/45/17s will look VERY BAD.... but on a lowered explorer they dont look to bad... but not great.

I have 275/55/17 tires on my lowered explorer and they look tough but they ride like crap.

Some guys on this board were wondering what SVT '01 cobra rims would look like on their trucks so i installed my '01 cobra rims yesterday- here is a pic

the fronts are 245/45/17 and the rears are 275/40/17 drag radials.......

i love the way they lowered my truck anoth 1.5 inches and the low profile ride so much better!!! but my speed o is really off..... unless the rush hour traffic now flows about 85 or 90 around here-lol

a speedo gear should fix your problem but im not sure which one you need..... the smaller tires really change the gear ratio also- i love it!!

Really nice X PUR PONY , u do need more of a drop or bigger tires or bigger rims or something though, too much wheel gap IMO but everything else looks so hot!!!

thanks.... with my cobra Rs and 275/55/17s the wheel gap is great but then the ride height is higher and the ride is bouncy with the tall side wall.

I was thinking of getting ride of my 17" cobra Rs and going with a 18" weld draglite and a lower profile tire....

i dont know.... i hate to keep sinking money into it though

get 20s, real men don't roll on teenage rims, haha

That's a mean looking ride Pur Pony. I didn't know they made speed grilles for the bumper. Or at least I haven't been able to find any....

Eric-

the whole reason i whiched to a '01 grille and bumper is just fro the inserts- lol... I love them!!

>drooling< Can't wait to see your ride at Carlisle, Pony...you're still going, right?

Ill be there-
