For a while now, the front end of my Ex has been making this clicking noise when moving, like something that is rotating is only hitting something else every so often. The click rate increases with speed. The strange thing is that the noise does not start until after the first time I have applied the brakes, and it will also stop while the brakes are being applied, but comes back as soon as I take my foot off of the brake pedal.

I believe that the noise is coming from somewhere near the driver's side tire... I took the wheel off this morning and noticed that the brake pads are constantly in contact with the rotor. They shouldn't be like this, should they?

Anyone have any ideas on what this noise could be?

Edit: About 100 miles ago I had new tires mounted and balanced, and about 150 miles ago I had the driver's side wheel bearing replaced and rotor resurfaced... The clicking was happening even before I had that work done. I also have manual hubs, if that might cause anything.

I had the same problem a year ago. I changed the pads and rattling sound went away.

Yes the pads will appear to make constant concact with the rotor. In reality they don't (unless there is a problem). It sounds like the anti-rattle clip is missing on the inside pad.

How could I go about checking that? I have never really worked on the wheel/brake assemblies myself. The most work I ever did on them was swapping out my auto hubs for the manual hubs.

TTT... Is this something I could check and fix myself? If so, how?

The inside brake pad should have a small metal clip attached to it. If they don't you can get new ones at most auto parts stores. To install the clips, remove the caliper and inner pad. The ends of the pad have a "v" shape to them the spring clip should have one flat edge and one with a tab sticking out. The clip should slide on the pad end (it should be obvious which way the spring clip installs). With the clip installed on the lower end of the pad, install it placing the end with the spring on it in first. Put the caliper back on and go!

Its kinda hard to describe how to do this, hopefully what I wrote makes sense.

I found this earlier today. Hopefully the pictures will help explain what I said earlier.

The anti-rattle clips only go on the inner pads?

Yes, they are the only on the inside. The outter pad attached to the caliper.

Do you have a larger version of that image? I just had my brakes replaced and it clicks like that. I took it back and they said it will go away once its broken in... i want to take them that and get them to fix it this time.

Thanks,
Alives

Sorry I don't have a larger version of the image.

Its possiblr to put the clip on wrong, with it facing the rotor and rubbing onit. You can buy a kit wih the clip and 2 new caliper pins.If your setup nhas 2 rubber filled pins retaining the caliper to the knuckle, replace them too
