question about digital message center

not sure if this is the correct forum to put this in, but i'm curious about what year ford started offering the digital information center in the explorers. also, if the truck didn't come with the message center, does it have the connection to install one? i know ford is infamous for installing the electronics necessary and then leaving the part out. (i.e. my ranger didn't have a passenger side airbag but had the plug for one, didn't come with a/c, but it had all the necessary plugs for me to install it)

not sure what year they started, think it was 95. no they don't have the connection (although maybe an EB would); i put one in my 98 sport, and it takes about 6 hours, as there are about 30 different wires to connect.
