Question about instrument cluster

On the cluster in my 98 Sport, below the tach and speedo is a rectangular box. Can someone tell me what it is/does. It looks like a digital display for something, but mine doesn't do anything. Just curious if I should have it fixed, or if I should even worry about it at all. Thanks

that is for the automatic transmission window. if you had an automatic it would have the box that would indicate which gear you would be in:

you dont need to worry since you have a manual tranny

LOL, I went and looked in the owners manual, boy do I feel like an idiot This is the first vehicle i've owned that has come with an owners manual, so looking in there wasn't my first choice. Now, what can I put in that spot for some coolness points..
