I have a problem with my brakes, well for one my abs lights is on, well my other problem, is I had my brakes done about 10,000 miles, ago, and about half way through that 10, 000 miles, thats when my abs light came, on, but I had my rotors resufaced, and now it seems that my rotors are warped, but heres my question, do you think the rotors are fine, but since the abs light is on, it makes it seem like the tires are skiding everytime I hit the brakes? Causeing it to seem like they are wraped, cause the abs is kicking on, and off...??

Maybe?

If you get vibration when braking, your rotors could be warped again. Otherwise, your rotors are still probably ok; ABS can also cause vibration when braking but it feels different than warped rotor vibration.

The ABS light. heheh. Well you can get a dealer$hip to pull the ABS code (since I know of no aftermarket code reader that will pull ABS codes on a Ford) and see what's wrong with it. It's kind of hard to understand your post. So what you're saying is your truck is skidding (brakes locking) when the ABS light is on, but when the ABS light is off, it brakes fine? Is there any vibration when braking?

by having your brakes "done" what exactly do you mean? pads and rotors?

if your rotors are already warped, maybe they didnt mount the tires correctly so you'd come back shortly.

If your getting a large amount of black dust from the brakes and your brakes feel too hard, your calipers could be seized.

I just had mine replaced and was quite surprised at the cost.

the calipers themselves (for the front) were 111 each, with a $50 core....so 70 bucks per dual-piston caliper aint bad in my opinion. Brakes havent been better.

I mention this because my ABS was erratically failing the 10mph self test, and at low speeds, and my rotors warped for no damn reason.

I had my front and rear rotors turned, and got new pads, the ads light is on all the time, so the abs is not working at all. But I thought, that the way the abs works is when the tire starts to skid, it releases pressure on the wheels, letting them stop skidding then reapplying pressure to the rotor again at a fast pace. So what I was thinking is since the abs is not working its sending a code to the computer that ever time I hit the brakes it thinks the tires are skidding applying the abs? Making it seem like the rotors are warped but not really?

If your ABS light is ON then the ABS computer has detected some fault and will NOT modulate your brakes at all (you have regular braking at this point).

You can warp the brake rorars by improperly installing the wheels. The lug nots should be torqed to 100 foot-pounds and in an oppisitely alternating pattern. Somtimes when a mechanic is in a hurry they use only a air gun, and not a torque wrench. Lug nuts get overtightned, warped brake rotors.

I know how to torque down the wheels, and thats not what i was asking...but thanks anyway.

I think my truck is doing the same thing. I put new pads and rotors, packed the bearings but ever since then sometimes when I press the brake pedal the ABS kicks on. Under completely normal braking conditions when it should stop with out any abs assist they just come on. I can pump the pedal a couple of times and then it stops normal. This happens under high or low speeds. I do not have an abs light on. Why would the abs be coming on when it doesn't need to? I think for some reason the abs thinks the wheel is locking up when it is not. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Chad

PS. It is a '94 sport 5sp.

A weak wheel sensor signal might do that

The computer checks for the presence of a signal an if it isn't there at all, it will give an ABS light. If the signal is just weak because of a bad connection or magnetic particles on the sensor, the missing pulses when you brake will make it think the wheel is locking up. Cleaning the sensors and unplugging connectors might help. Remember the differential sensors.

I just bought the DiagTek scan software a couple of weeks ago, and it has the capability to scan ABS codes. It can also run some ABS tests. Software and cable cost $249 plus you need a Palm to run it on.

so where are all these sensors located at?

This is for a 97. The rear ABS sensor is located on top of the rear differential. There are 3 sensors - LH Front, RH Front and Rear.
