My buddy drives a 2000 Explorer 4dr XLS 4x4, we were drivin around yesterday and when it hit 20mph or above you hear a whining noise coming from the front end...its not engine because its not consistant with RPMs only the speed of the vehicle...any help would be nice.

Is the noise still there whether or not your on the accelerator? Do you know how many miles are on it?

72k plus...well i dont know but you cant hear it with the noise of the engine...once he lets off to glide you hear it, it kinda sounds like turbine engine on a plane or like a supercharger just not as fast.

Front Hub bearing. Do a search for hub bearing and you will read a lot about whinning noise related to hub bearings.

That is what i would state it is. :)

On my 96 explorer mine makes a very loud humming sound and it sounds like it comes from the air filter housing. It only does it every once in a blue moon when it very hot outside. But it can be heard while sitting in park with the truck running.
