Hello,

I recently purchased a set of Yokahama Geo's +11, and low and behold I ended up with a screw causing a flat. These tires were purchased ~2 weeks ago.

Is there any replacement warranty for this type of issue, or do I have to get this thing plugged and capped myself? Not what I wanted so prematurely.

What do most tire retailers offer for flat repair? Free flat replacement, free flat repair, or it's the buyer’s ownership?

Thanks!

J

I believe that unless you bought some sort of roadhazard warranty you are SOL. Just pay to have it plugged, that's cheap anyway.

Depends on where you got it from... At Wheel Works where i work, with any tire purchase you get free rotation and flat repair.... if you buy the lifetime wheel balance, you can get them re-balanced for free whenever you want to up to 2/32" of an inch of tread..... also we have a premature mileage warranty where we prorata them....

our tire purchase does have free flat repair and rotation as i stated above, but if the tire is unrepairable due to sidewall or something you must eat the cost of the tire unless you had the optional tire protection plan which was initally 10% of hte tire cost when you purchased the tires added on.....

Thanks for the quick responce ;)

How well do plug work really? I feel unsafe on the highway knowing that one of the tiress is plugged. I'm soooo angry that these tires are to new to have plugs put in them. What a PITA! I don't feel comfortable pluging a new tire.

I was reading on the Yokahama website in regards to their Warranty replacment program they hold themselves, but am unsure how it applys. I'll shoot them a quick line to customer service and see what they say.

Nothing was offered in flat repair or ballance when I bought these tires. I know a guy who owns his own shop and does not even retail Yokahama, but I wanted to do buisness with him out of respect. So he had these brought to his shop to keep me happy also. So who knows???

Thanks!

I just wanted some grounds before calling in for repair....

Just plug the tire, its easy and it works.

You shouldn't feel unsafe. They take the tire off the rim and patch it from the inside, it's a good strong fix, I had a tire patched like that and it worked fine up until I got rid of them for my MT's :). Not like what we use to do with 3 and 4wheeler tires...rubber cement + piece of bike intertube + cramming it in the hole = hours more fun lol

Nice! LoL...

Thanks for the resonce peeps! I'm still not happy, but I had the plug and patch done at my expence.

I'm tired of these construction areas leaving this stuff around the streets. IMO they should have a street cleaning daily or weekly for this reason. It's not safe!

Well hopefully this will hold out for a while, and I guess I should carry some rubber cement and bike tubes anytime I'm out in the boonys...lol.

Cheers!

yeah every tire place is different,

this is how it works at the shop that i work at,

some tires have road/hazard and factory defect warranties along with the mileage warranty

most truck tires, especially MTs don't have road/hazard,
only the ATs have mileage warranties, but no road/hazard either
and vehicles for Farm use don't get any warranty

on most car tires have road/hazard factory defect and mileage warranties,

the only way that you can get money back on the mileage is if you have all the proof about rotations and alignments etc etc.

on road/hazards like having a nail in the sidewall, money back depends on how much tread is left, if the tire has more then half tread, the customer will get exactly half-back on the tire

if the tire has a factory defect, like excessive road force or a broken belt aka ply separation, the tire is replaced free, and depending on how new the tire is, mounting/balancing will be free

i know that at Schierl tire a goodyear dealer they offer the lifetime rotation and balancing plan and so does walmart

oh and another thing, in order to get warranty on a tire that has say a broken belt, if it was repaired at anytime, the repair must be done correctly otherwise the broken belt could have been caused by a poorly done repair,

the only right way to repair a tire is with the combination plug/patch,

just a gummy plug or a plain patch can allow air to penetrate the layers of the tire causing ply separation and broken belts

my moms 01 GV has had quite a few plugs...the tires seem to just pick crap up.....

we got the tires put on at sears..sears offers a warrenty even if it is not there tire so we have never paid for a flat cept when a rock tore the sidewall a new one...that cost us $6 to fix because they pro rate it 2 bucks a month or something..hope that helped

edit: with the plugs in the tires i have never noticed a difference and have never had any problems...800 miles to AZ at about 90-95 100-105 the tires were fine =) :burnout:

Thanks man!

I had a plug/patch done and all seems fine..

To tell you the truth, my last set of rubber that came with the truck had ~7 flats. six of those seven were plugged, the 7th called for replacement IMO. This is within a year of me driving.

The concern I really had (I think I'm getting over it now) is that this tire had ~2 weeks or so driving on it. So it's all said and done.

Cheers!

J
