I am looking to get a new exhaust for my X. I have a 99 v6 SOHC. I am looking for an exhaust that gives a nice low rumble that isnt too ricey but also want the interior noise to be pretty low. What do u guys recommend? Also, what size piping do u suggest and i heard other people talking bout putting a resonator in? Do I need a resonator too? Please give ur opinions and experiences with ur exhausts. Thanks a lot...

i think something like a flowmaster 50 series is what you are looking for. itll have a nice rumble but not too loud. and there are different kinds, there is the non-delta (origional) which will have a nice rumble, the delta series which will be quiter (may be too quiet) and there is the SUV series (not really sure the difference but i think its like the delta series, someone correct me if in wrong). for pipes since you have the stage 2 v6 id go with 2'' or 2.25'' pipes. but im not an expert on teh v6. good luck!

Yup, Flowmaster 50 or Magnaflow is probably the way to go with a custom installation. 2.25 or 2.5" single tailpipe, whichever is 1/4" larger than your stock tailpipe.

Flowmaster Delta 40 on my SOHC

I had a custom cat-back installed w/ a flowmaster delta 40 Muffler and 2.5" pipe. I went single in/single out.

It sounds very powerfull from the outside. with a mellow LOW rumble at idle. it doesnt sound ricey anywhere in the powerband. But DAMN it sounds throaty at 3k rpm's hehe.

The DELTA line of flowmaster mufflers are designed to have low interior resonance (quieter inside the cabin) while maintaning the POWERFULL sound of a non-delta on the outside.

From what ive read the 50 SUV is quieter on the interior than the delta 40 but it has a tamer sound outside as a sacrifice.
Im happy with my delta 40 but for sure you can hear inside the cabin- but its not too bad- and only when you really get on the throttle hard (most of the time for me hehe)

There is a sound clip on my site in my signature - used a crumby microphone so it doesnt capture its true essence - but you get the idea

tahnks for all ur replies.... does anyone else happen to have any sound clips? I'm thinking of going with a 40 series delta flow but I wanna make sure I wont get to annoyed listening to it every day. Thanks.

i have the original 40 series....there is a resonance in the cabin at first i thought it was gonna be too loud, but after the first day or so i got used to it....and i think it really sounds great.

Well i have a friend who could hook me up with a flowmaster muffler for a good price. Should I just bring the muffler to a local shop and tell them to weld it on with custom 2.5 inch piping. Is there anything else I should tell them to do? Do you guys recommend keeping the resonator on? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

a 40 series delta should be a good choice.... loud and growly but not overwhelmingly annoying

I have the 50 SUV and I love it. I have it on the SOHC with dual tail pipes and it sounds like a Mustang GT. I've had people make me pop the hood because they didnt believe it was a V6. I like my setup because if I dont want it to be loud it doesnt have to be but all I have to do is give it a little more gas and there it is. Works nice when driving past cops and such.

i'd say lose the resonator. only one more thing that will rust and have to get taken out....and go duals man...

Hey 98Fordx24
that 50SUV you have that is a Flowmaster right ?
