question on awd models

Hello,
I have a 2000 exploer with a v8 all wheel drive. It gets horrible gas miliage and being in California its costing a lot. My question is if I remove the front drive line will it increase my miliage? Will it hurt the vehicle to drive with no front drive line.

The best bet is to get a BW 4406 transfer case with manual shift from a F series pick up.

This will give you real 2WD as well as 4WD.
