just purchased an 03 Explorer, V6 with 46K miles. I noticed when it is running, in park that the engine has a distinct wind up noise, from idle up until 2K RPM. Is this normal with this engine? I have not driven to many other Explorers, so I don't have anything to go by. Any adive would be appreciated.
Thanks

If it sounds like a wind sound, then it may be the fan and fan clutch. When mine is cold it will sound high winded then after taking off the first time it stops..

In my experience most do this when they first start. But if it doesn't stop after a minute I would get the fan clutch checked. I doubt they are very expensive.

If its the fan, I wouldn't worry about it. There's no airflow when you are in park, so the fan has to run.
