It's been a while since I've been on here, but I just traded my 1994 explorer sport 5-spd with 137k miles on a 2002 Explorer sport 5-spd(manual) with 53k miles. Now I have a problem I was hoping someone could help me with.
When the vehicle gets hot(by hot I mean the transmission has time to get hot too, > 30 minutes) the transmission will grind on the 2-3 shift. If you give it enough time to slow down, it won't grind going into third. This only happens upshifting, and seems to work fine downshifting at all RPMs. When it is cold, it shifts just fine into 3rd, and every other gear doesn't grind at all. My questions are: Do you think I might be able to make the problem go away by switching over to royal purple? and, how hard is it to drain and fill the transmission on a stick 2002 sport?
