Ford Explorer XLT 1991
Hello,
I have a ford explorer xlt 1991, that wasn't used 4-5 years, and I don't have a battery installed - What type of battery should I buy (Amps, things like that) which is the most optimal battery for this car ?
Second is that I have tires in sizes (P215/65R15) , will these tires fit for this car and is it ok? I have these tires now (P235/75R15) but those are old. I don't know anything about these sizes, so I'm asking.

Additional specs, if needed for the battery: 4.0L engine 155hp.

Yup, it's an old, rusty truck, but I like it, and I wanna restore it.. :D

EDIT:
Where can I find this car's engine technical specs, like which part is what in the engine, i mean like if wanted to repair (clean-up) the engine I would have to know how to bring it back, and like what every part of the engine means and stuff like that. Is there a manual or something?
P.S. sorry for the grammar, English is my second language. :D

I think the 215 tires are going to be a bit small, especially if you plan on off road use. The 235's that it brings from the factory are wider and offer more traction, not to mention that by changing tire size the speedo. is going to be a few mph off.

I've run 215s on mine, but only because I HAD to have it on the road, and had no money to buy new tires. (I stole those off my mustang) It looks very goofy with tires that small. If you go to this thread,
http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?p=2206828#post2206828 you can see what the 215s look like, the blue ex on the trailer on page 2 has 215-65-r15s on it.

As per the battery, I would just stop by a parts store and have them pull up your vehicle and they can tell you the OEM recommended battery for it. I actually got mine from wally world, just used the little computer they have in the automotive dep. next to the batteries and it told me the right one.

sorry, didnt notice your location last post. Autozone.com is showing a minimum of a 650 CCA battery for an explorer, with most in the 750-800CCA range. Hope this helps.

You need a group 65 size battery.. Stock tires I believe were 225 or 235.. You could run 215s but they may look like funny.

Welcome!

Go with the battery with the most cold cranking amps that is within your price range. My ex has 850 cold cranking amps and 1000 regular cranking amps.

If the tires fit and are safe and you don't need bigger ones for off roading run them unless you have money to burn on new ones. Who cares what they look like as long as it gets the job done.

wow thank you for your replies, could anyone suggest some kind of repair manual for ford explorer '91 XLT ?

If you can find the 3 manual factory set on ebay. I picked up them up for $10 each recently. There is a power train, chassis and electrical manual.

Thanks nitro :)

Also, I found something on AutoZone, is that a good resource?
