Hey folks, I searched the forum a lot, but I couldn't find the info I'm looking for on a 302 conversion for my 91 X. I have a 5 speed X, and I want to retain the 5 speed when I put in a 302, but I'd like to use a T5. Does anybody know of any clearance issues with this? Would there be fewer clearance issues if I were to convert to an AOD tranny instead? Also, if I get my 302 from an 89 Mustang, would I use that ECU? I also don't know what needs to be done to the wiring harness to make it work with a 302. Basically, I'm looking for a good write up on this project, and I've been unlucky lately. Oh, one more thing, will the motor mounts from a newer V8 explorer work for my V8 swap? ANY help or information is appreciated... Thanks in advance...

search for *V8 swap or V8* swap, theres 30 pages of results or somethin like that. Using the "*" makes V8 useable in the search

If you decide to take on the project then you will be the SHIZNET! Everywhere I go people stop and ask what you got under 'dat hood:D

Well, I think I'm going to have to take the project on. I bought my 91 XL 2WD Explorer a couple days ago for $300. The engine is seized from what I can tell, (can't turn it with a ratchet on the crank bolt) and the bolt for the camshaft gear that the timing chain sits on is broken off. So if I'm going to pull the engine to rebuild it, I might as well throw in a 5.0. I'm a car mechanic, so I don't think this is out of my league, and I have found some useful information, but right now I'm having trouble finding information about the wiring, so if anybody knows of some resources, let me know!

I used the 1996 EEC V Explorer V8 system. With a EVTM for my truck and the Explorer (and a lot of help from this forum) the wiring was easy. Depending on what vehicle your engine is from I think I would go with a EEC IV system such as a 93 mustang if I were doing your swap.
