Questions on 4 inch lowering

Hey, please all don't hate me just because I want to lower my truck...thank you.

Ok...I have a 1992 eddie X 4x4 and I am wondering what the easiest and most economical way is to lower my truck 4 inches all the way around. I plan to do this by myself and w/ some help. I've heard that lowering blocks are a good way to go and maybe some lower leaf springs in the back, to get lowerage there. The front end is what I'm confused about, since I have a 4x4. I do know that some people get about 2 inches out of twisting down the torsion bar, but does a 4x4 have one?? I think lowering springs and shocks would help, but are those expensive?? easy to instal?? I've also read somewhere that had an I-beam install or sumthing to get it lower? idk, please give me your thoughts, thank you very much guyz..::redexp:

I am not a lowering guy, so I can't help you much. But, I can tell you that adjusting your tortion bars won't help, they were on the 95+.

You've got a 4x4 so you can't lower the front...at all really. Look under your the front of your TRUCK and find the left front spring. You'll see the bottom of the spring is attached to an axle half, or traction beam, which has an end attached on the right frame rail, and the other end on the left front wheel. Halfway down that traction beam you'll see a fat part (differential), you'll notice that the differential is only about 2" from the rubber bumpstop on the frame, maybe less. This is your suspension upwards travel....you can't really lower a 4x4 explorer. You could go to 2x4, but you'd have to replace a lot of suspension components, plus throw out 4x4.....just sell it and buy a 2x4 and make some profit.

you can only lower a TTB 4x4 about 2 inches. if you wanna keep it and go 4", you'll have to convert to 2WD.

Hey guys, thanks to all of you that answered my question. It really really sux that I can't lower it very much because of 4x4, I need 4x4 since I live in IOWA and the winters are pretty bad. I also love my truck, so I prolly won't sell it, man I wish there was a way to get around that diff. anyway thank you very much for the help, bye

I have a pair of the original Eibach 2" lowering springs (#3540.001 $169.95). They were on a vehicle for a short period of time.
Add a set of 2" blocks to the rear and you are good to go. Let me warn you, the ride quality is not good on a lowered gen 1. The results are not the same when lowering an early Explorer. If you want to sacrifice ride quality for lowering, that would be up to you.

Like Bryd said, 4'" drop on a 4X4 is out of the question.
