Hey yall. Got an electrical question for everyone

Im running two 12" subs with an AMP pulling at MAx 50 amps. Im running 4 gauge wire both power and ground, and instead of unscrewing the power wire everytime i take the sub enclosure out, i was wanting to install a type of male/female connector for everything for ease of removal. The only think i can think of is using the ends off an extension cord to accomplsih this, howeve here is my deliema:

The cord im thinking about using is ACE hardware 'Ace Locking Extension Cord Conversion Adapter (Tw-Stw123-10iyw)'.

Here's the link:

http://www.acehardware.com/product/...d&x=11&parentPage=search&searchId=19753257912

It's rated at 15 amps, 125 volts, 1875 watts. I would use each of the prongs for power, ground, and remote lead. But here's the problem:

1) would the extension ends overheat because of the increase of amps, despite the lower voltage? (theoretically, 14.4 volts X 50 amps = 720 watts)

2) would the extension plugs impede (resist) the amps/volts going to the amp from the 4 gauge wire, thus lowering the gauge?

thanks for the input and if anyoen else has (safer?) suggestions, please let me know. I want to do this right!

amps are different for AC and DC current

high voltage only needs low amps for AC

Low voltage in DC needs high amperage

i wouldnt do it, 15amps is nothing in car audio world, the HU can draw 15 amps

have you ever seen those zamboni style power floor cleaners they use in the grocery stores, or a shop before. those have a bout 6 car batterys in them and use a quick disconnect for charging. i bet you could find a place that supplies parts for those and get the connectors for that. from what i remember the one i used at the shop i think it looked like four gauge battery cable too.

that or you may be able to something like this to work

Yea, i think ive settled on the Anderson Connectors, like the break away one in the previous post. Their quite compact, and i think it would be better than say a dryer plug, lol. thanks guys for the advice!

go to your local welding shop and see if you can get the conections for an arc welder those would work perfect.
