I took my front sway bars off tonight, I probably got about 2 more inches of flex. I went out to a rocky area nearby to get up on some rocks and observe. Not sure exactly the amount of improvement but it is worth the effort to make these into quick disconnects. I'm gonna take the rears off and probably leave them off. Actually still drives good without them, but I want the front ones on just with a quick disconnect.
Here's a pic of the bolt, I wanna make it like the others I have seen for Jeeps and such. Which is basically just a hole through the bolt with a cotter pin through it. These shouldnt be a big deal. Anyone have any input? Roadbully I know you're into fabbing, what do you think?

I was actually thinking of the exact same thing after my little trail ride on monday.
I'll take a look into it in the next few days and let you know what I come up with.

K, I'm sure you have noticed the lack of flex. You put a front tire on a rock and pushes the whole truck up it feels like. That hurts our off road capability. I think this will help. I'm gonna keep mine off for a few days so I can take them to a shop and get a hole drilled just above the top bushing. I'll post pics when I get this done. I'm also putting off the small mods and saving for a locker, limited slip sucks!

what about instead of using a bolt you put a sleeve over the threaded area that is the same size as a nut, and than drill through them both for a cotter key ?
that way there is something holding the bushing on the top ,

I think I know what you mean, usually as with the type for Jeeps you just have a metal washer over the rubber bushing under the cotter pin.

I'm interested to see what you guys come up with.

BTW, Ben, the truck looks great, I wish we lived a little closer and could do some wheeling together.

I did this on mine way back in the day. I just drilled a hole through the bolt and used a pin to disconnect.

I'm sure we can come up with something for the disconnect.
Kitchener.. I usedto live in Cambridge.

I also want to add a nylon strap to tie up the sway bar once disconnected.

Yeah, for sure, we'll haveto find a way to get them to swing outa the way, and keep them there...

Ok, So I'm going to remove all links this weekend, and hit the trail again monday or tuesday, I'll see what the difference is with the sway bars disconnected.
That way I can see if it's worth making a quick disconnect or not.

I'll update ya after.

Ben

Cool, I wish I coulda finished mine up but I'm 6 hours away at a wedding:(
Next weekend is a big one tho, doing the Body lift and the sway bars.
Looking forward to hearing how you think it handles....

Looks good. And looks easy!!!

Yeah it wasnt hard at all. I didnt even need a drill press, just a regular drill. Where you at in north Georgia? Know of any good trails?

Looks like a good idea, I'll haveto do that to mine this week.
I'm gonna hit the trail tomorrow first to see how much more articulation we get with them removed though.
There is Tonnes more body roll... that's for sure.

There is a good one in Windermere. It's off of hwy 20 in Cumming.
Other than that. Beasley Knob is really good from what I hear.

Yea I'm looking forward to getting these back on for highway use. Although I'm leaving the back ones off I think

Very bad time of day for these pictures, but it's definitely worth doing the quick disconnects.
The Ex was in the exact same position in both pics, the first day, the rear tire was off the ground a good 6-8 inches... and today, 2-3...
