Well, I was driving with 2 of my friends, and the one in the front seat said "Hey, does this thing have 4x4?" I said yes and pointed to the 4x4 button. For some reason he pushed it. I yelled at him, slowed down to a stop, and then heard some gears grinding or something, then the 4x4 light came on. I pushed the button again to take it off. Everything seems to be working fine. Just wondering if this did any harm. I was going 45 -50 mph at the time. Oh and don't worry, I yelled at him good afterwards.

You're probably OK... but if I were you I'd mess with your friend and tell him he blew your transfer case and both your auto-locking hubs and now he owes you a few grand for repairs. I'd even create a fake repair shop estimate on the computer or something. :D

I dont think that the sound of gears grinding is ever a good thing so I hope that nothing serious happened. But I agree with Webster3, pretend that he really messed it up just to mess with him. :us:

Haha, will do!
Thanks for the help. I don't think anything got seriously hurt but i was just checking.
Thanks again.

ouch! i would have slapped him silly!!!

You might want to check to see if the hubs actually do engage...I'm assuming that it has auto-lock hubs (not manual). There are some splines inside the hub that can be sheared off. You might even have 3x4 ; )

Just check, because it would suck if you need 4x and don't have it when you think you do.

where in ak are you?
