alright heres the scoop, i need to change my valvecover gasket on my OHV on the driver side. ive found directions on here but they dont take into account the AC. can this pump be moved out easy, or does that hard line screw me over? Dad thinks it needs to be discharged, then take it out... i sorta think you could wrestle the cover out. he said hd give me 500 bucks if i could... so is it possible or not? cause i could use hte money.

i am sure there are enough soft lines that you can manueaver it out of the way..... most of the cars i have seen at work do it like that.....

i havnt done one on this car but i have a few others unbolt the compresser from the motor and carefully move the compesser dont bend the lines too much or they will snap or bend where you dont want them too if you discharge the air con you gonna be up for at least 100 bucks to recharge it

It can be done. Just unbolt the compressor and carefully move it out of the way. It isn't that difficult.

Mine was removed without the ac being discharged.

give it a shot if by some chance you do have to discharge the system wal-mart sells the 134a recharge kits for about $ 25-$ 30

they dont sell recharge kits for the older ac fluid it is a 91 so i am sure it uses the older fluid. if you do break a line it will be costly $$$$

They sell the retro fit connectors for the low and high side of the system. The connectors screw into the existing connectors and allow the use of R-134A coolant in older systems. I converted my dads 88 bronco 2 to the new system and it was within the price I mentioned, and now the air is cold as it was new.

bates-

How did it go? I have a pretty serious oil leak on my 1992 Sport and it was recommended I check there for the source of the leak. It's hard to be sure since the whole engine on the drivers side especially is covered with gunk and oil.

Anyway, if you have done it by now and have any tips please email me. Also, did you have an oil leak that caused you to want to replace your gaskets?

Kevin

The R-12 is EXPENSIVE so I removed and rplaced my whole engine without discharging the A/C. Just unbolt the compressor and the brackets holding the lines to the engine, use some wire or a coat hanger to hold it up out of the way. Just dont force or bend the lines.

Dont forget to get the $500 from your Dad. :D
