SoHC will say "SOHC" on the intake cover.

OHV will say "4.0L"

If I recall correctly. :D

And if the intake cover is missing or is not stamped for some strange reason, you can look at the VIN. The 8th digit will be either a "E" or an "X". The "E" is the SOHC and the "X" is the OHV.

the OHV also says EFI on the little cover behind the throttle body

Just curious, does that OHV engine in the linked thread have the intake manifold painted? or is it a plastic manifold from a 2nd generation (I know what forum i'm in)? My 93 just has an aluminum manifold. I didn't realize they had changed the material.
I apologize for the random question.
Thanks

Its plastic. The upper manifold is plastic on the 2nd Gen OHV (at least it is on my 97)
