I talking about my amp placement and the inability to upgrade to a larger amp because i want them hidden

He said that a friend of his in a '92 x had his in the hatch gate. I have a
'98 which swings up and not down, so has anyone put their amps inside the hatch. It seems like a logical place with the vents there for heat and ample amount of room.

My original plan was to put the amps in the hatch, but they won't be able to be hidden without some major modifications. If you are not using the storage space on the passenger rear side try doing what i did with my amp. Go to the link in my signature to see pics. It tooks some time but is very nice and will update with the finished product once i get the pictures uploaded.

Don't forget also if you put them on the gate then you have to find a way to run the wires, and there will be aditional weight on the liftgate so you may have to upgrade the struts.

I am going to do something pretty creative with my amp, but I doubt it is an option for you.

I am building two "stealth" boxes, one where the storage box was, and the other partially in and out of the jack compartment. However, I believe that for ease of construction and maximum stability, it is going to be easiest to simply run a piece of mdf the length of the wheel curve, all the way to the back seat. This means I am going to have left over room behind the mdf. So I am simply going to stick the amp behind it and put a top on. Done. The board will be bolted to the floor in 3 spots, and to the side of the car as well. It should look nice when I am done, and it also allows me to stick 2 fans in the top of the board as well for maximum cooling, and no cutting of the trim in the car either. This project is going to begin in about 2 weeks. I am pretty optimistic about it, and I will be sure to keep everyone posted w/ pics.

I was planning on putting my amp behind the trim on either side of the car, but my darned sony amp is 18x11x2 inches long, too big to fit behind there. I assume that is your problem as well.

I don't know if that was any help or not, but I hope it was. You could always put it under the seat (like mine is now) or maybe even stick a little extenstion on the back of your box and hide the amp like that. Little tricks can mean all the difference. Best of luck.

I tried the seat but it disrupts my seats folding down. My sub amp is in the quarter panel wall right now. So why wouldnt the hatch work under the brake light for the amp?

There are two quarter panels, you can put the other amp in the other one....

You are welcome to try the hatch, but here are the problems that I see with it:

1: how to run all your wires there (power, ground, rca's, turn on lead) and back (speaker wires)

2: its harder to access

3: it could affect the performance of your hatch

4: wires could be pinched when the hatch closes

its up to you of course, if you can make it work go for it, but I am thinking the opposite quarter panel is gonna be your best bet.

The back quarter panel is where I have my sub amp now, but it doesnt give room for anything bigger. I thought maybe there was a wiring junction from the hatch and the rest because power has to be going to the wipers and brake light. Maybe its just a bad idea. Thank you for your feedbacks

You could always take out the wiper liquid container for the back (i never use it, i don't know if you do) and put it there. I am talking about putting the amp behind the trim on that side, just pull off the cover to the jack compartment and look inside there, you can probably squeeze your amp inside there...

If you feel like getting really crazy you can try and mount them in the roof. I seen one like this and it looked pretty cool.
