I just installed an Alpine PDX F4 amp for my speakers and it sounds great. Only thing is sometimes it smells like something is burning but when i go check the amp it doesnt smell like its burning. It does get hot but nothing too crazy. I have it mounted in the trunk to the floor. Should it be elevated? or is it possibly something else causing the smell.

Elevating it wouldn't hurt, helps with the air flow. If its not from the amp, check around as soon as you smell the burning. It would be a PITA but leave everything the way it is when you smell it to help pinpoint the source, if its coming from your sound system.

Raise it up and if your skilled enough, get some 120mm computer case fans and mount them to the underside of the amp in some sort of housing.. The additional air circulation of the fan will help

Thanks all for the replies. Ill check it out during the week when Im not working and am not too tired.

What would you recommend to raise it? Some kind of spacers? wood?
