Quiet performance mufflers

There must be a trade off as in all things, but what in your opinion is the quietest performance muffler?

Also what is the quietest Flowmaster muffler?

the stock one is pretty good in the performance arena..... flow 50 delta is the quietest in my opinion..... quietest is relative though...... DO NOT GET A 40...They are REALLY LOUD..like piss of the neighbors in the morning...loud

I have to echo jimabena i have dual flowmaster 40s and they are loud. it sounds killer when you are off road and mash the gas to get over a hill or a good burst through some mud but dang riding through town is loud and on the highway the drone can get annoying to try and talk over. i pulled my interior out and put thick carpet padding to help deaden the noise. it does sound good though. the best in my opinion is the 50 it sounds so rich and mellow and not loud at all. one thing that i am going to do is get a 50 dual in dual out and route both pipes to the passenger rear. so that i can get 3 inche pipe through it. the bends on my current set up and the small pipes irritate me. i want my baby to breathe.

my Delta 50 is definately not quiet at all but it might have to due with the larger pipe i have.

well, everyone seems to think that dynomax is quiet, but i had it on my truck for a little while (3 days, actually) and it was decent sounding, but on a highway, there was this awful drone, something terrible.

the quietest performance muffler i ever heard is the one thats on my truck right now, but its coming off on wednesday, because its not quiet enough. i dont know what brand it is, but i had it put on at meineke, and on my receipt it just says, "prof. plus", i assume this means, "professional plus", or something like that. it sounds awesome, and i love it - if i wanted exhaust. quite frankly, im sick of exhaust, i do too much highway driving and too many long trips, and cant deal with the noise on the highway. id rather not get the 20-30 extra miles per tank and prevent some headaches.

two ways to go

There are two ways to quiet exhaust. Baffle it or restrict it. Its a good combo of both that makes a good flowing muffler. I think what most people want in a muffler is low end rumble with no in your ears resonance, (pressure in the ear with the windows roled up). I have A Dynomax system on my 89 SC T-bird, Its great for cruising but when you open it its the wildest sounding exhaust in town. I own an Xhaust shop and our town is small enough that people call up and ask for the sound of a certain T-bird they heard in town. Can't duplicate it. I have tried.

How 'bout Spintech mufflers? Off-Road.com had a review of 'em - they put a set on a 400M in a '79 F150. They wrote that they were really quiet. I'd like some real quiet exhaust on my ride as well, after the V8 swap. Make it a Honda-Slaying Beast, and be sneaky about it... MUAHAHAHAHAHA - er, ahem....

Try a Borla with both venturis installed, there is one that is I think always installed that is right at the tip, there is an optional on that can be welded in right after the muffler, the venturi causes more of the flow to actually go into the stuffing or whatever in the muffler (it's a straight through design) and be muffled, some exhaust shops leave off both on the Borla system and that's why some people complain of droning, my system has one installed and it's fine everywhere except 71 mph on the highway, 70 is fine, 72 is fine, it's weird.
