I want to put a racing stripe, but I don't what to paint it... I saw some nice ones online made of vinyl... but they are expensive... I decided to play with my pc and a simple computer graphics software, but... not sure...

then, I took some extra window tint and made me a single racing stripe.... I'm not sure that I like it... go with the dual lines, better?

take a look http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2191157/8

That's an interesting idea, using window tint. I'm wondering, though, how will it hold up over time?

I don't think windows tint is that great idea, cause the glue on windows tint are really hard to take once it's dry, vinyl is the way to go.

i like the last pic with the 2 tone but get rid of the racing stripes. the 2 tone with the older wheels i think would look good together. if you wanted to dothe 2 tone get it painted because it will actually be cheaper. i got quoted 450 to have the top half of my truck painted gun metal metalic and around 1300 to have it vinyled

also window tint will mess with the paint so i wouldn't really use it. the best ways to remove window tint are amonia cleaning product or a razor blad. haha i wouldn't touch my paint with ether

I would try getting some green autobody masking tape and masking out stripes. For a Miata I painted I put 7 1/2in. stripes with 3 inches between them.

when i get home i'll post a pic of that car

I like the single stripe best. Make it flat black and slap a Mustang hood scoop on it! Just do the stripe on the hood Mach 1 style. Maybe do a single black stripe on the rocker panels too? Then some black wheels. That would look cool!

I took the window tint off the hood yesterday... thankfully the glue was not too dry yet... I got some in the paint, but was able to rub it off with a wet town...

I was thinking about the 2-tone... that it might look like a harley davison edition.... with the red/orange stripe to divide the 2 tones... those are just dreams.... I can't afford too much for my toy/daily-driver...

how easy will it be to remove the vinyl?

vinyl isn't too bad to remove. sometimes you get a little glue but a little cleaner will fix it

It looks good just the way you did it.

aaaaaaaaargh! I think its EXTREME ugly.

I like the look of this one

dual, and going all the way down, with the blackened headlights.
Whatever stripe you decide on, make sure it goes all the way to the tip of the hood at least lol, the first few pics stopped at like a point, i didnt care for that.

good lookin explorer though!

I was wondering how it would look with a larger lip (lower balance?)... so i tried some pc graphics...

Hey.. don't be jealous... plus I'm asking for suggestions/ideas in this thread.. do you have any???

we can help you with some if you want... ;-)

let me know

I'n not jealous....I'm form The Netherlands.

I have an Explorer Limited V8, price here $77.000,-.
I payed this insane price because the Explorer is an very beautiful car.
European cars are much cheaper.
For $77.000,- i can buy a top model from Mercedes, BMW or Audi.
But i don't like that cars.

In The Netherlands is only one dealer for USA Ford and parts... I have to wait two or three weeks for parts. And they are very expensive (passengerside mirror $666,-).

In The Netherlands only kids from under twenty put stripes on there cars.
Because there drive in small, old and cheap European cars.

So thats why the most people in The Netherlands and the rest of Europe don't like stripes on a nice big car.

I don't much care for the idea of racing stripes on an explorer to be honest, but the picture was done quite well and don't mind it.

IMHO I think it'd look even a little better with 2 thinner stripes, not pinstripe thin or anything just not quite as large as standard racing stripes.

I guess the kind of stripes I am thinking of are similar in size to this in the front, without the gap (unless you had an intake scoop in which this design is really awesome looking)

I also like how they are rounded in the front rather than just going to the tip of the hood and are not pointed. I don't like the pointed look too well myself.

What I really do like is that the stripes are darker than the explorer and don't have a huge contrast. I think one of the biggest mistakes with racing stripes is people who try too hard to make them stand out by making them as strong of a contrast as possible. Racing stripes stand out, no need to over do it.

Of course, all of this is pure opinion. As they say, to each his own.

wow!!! in US$$? that is a lot... I feel you.... I also felt that the racing stripe look is for the cheaper/younger japanese/euro affitionado.... but I think my explorer is moving towards becoming into a street truck.... you know how it is when you start adding mods.... without a plan (or clear picture in mind).... then, finally... one day.... it becomes clear to you where you want to take your truck... what kind of beast it will be... a rock crawler or a speed devil..... or a very settled executive type ride.

do you have any pics of your? I;m curiouse to see what a holland's x looks like.... specially for that price....

I agree about the "out standing" stripes... I think black or dark gray/gun metal I don't want to go for that racer look... I just want a nice sporty graphics schema...
