anyone know the size of the screw that you have to back out to drain the coolant from radiator? it takes an allen wrench and i have taken it out before a few times but for some reason i cant figure out how to do it now.. im thinking i might have stripped it last time i put it back in.

I think parts stores sells replacements, so just get some vice grips on it and spin, we had to do this on a shop car one time, granted it was a Gran Prix, not an Explorer. Look into replacements before attempting this though, should be called a Radiator Petcock.

did you have easy access to the gand prix petcock? cus this has like a tube and you have to shove the allen wrench a few inches in the tube to reach the screw so i cant really see whats going on in there.. let alone getting vice grips or pliers on there...
it feels like its turning but nothing is happening...

though now that i think about it i can just take off the lower radiator hose and drain that way..

Yea the Gran Prix was real easy, had like a "T" on the end. As for your situation, I remember on mine that it kept spinning, but the o-ring actually kept it in, so once I put my hand up there to feel it, it moved and the pressure form the coolant pushed it the rest of the way out. But I swear on my Explorer I was able to put a small socket on it, but I could be wrong, I haven't drained it in over a year.

By far the quickest and most efficient method, albeit messy. Prepare for the flood, and dilute
heavily with water if the coolant ends up on the ground. Sweet, and EXTREMELY toxic to pets.

maybe that is how ill get the rats out of my garage :D

Most coolants nowadays contain bitterness agents to keep pets and wild animals from drinking it, but better to not get any on the ground. I like to replace the hoses whenever I flush the coolant, so I just put a bucket under and poke a hole in it to have it drain exactly into the bucket. Then make sure to catch the rest when you actually take the hose off.
