I just replaced the alternator. New Remy 130 amp unit. Old one has 150k on it and friend just got stuck with $700 at a dealer while on vacation, so I figured better now than later. Easy install. New one fit perfect and puts out 14.55V. Ordered it on line and got 25% off and picked it up in store the next day. Cost for new one was $137 total after core.
Problem is that the radio has a lot of noise on AM. Noise is like hash. Read about the fuel pump may cause this. Removed fuel pump relay under the hood and noise still there. Noticed that radio is clean when in ignition is on ACC. When set to RUN position, noise is present while engine is off. No motors are running. Anyone heard of this? Any ideas? FM is clean and so is factory CD changer, so this is noise just on the AM band.
Can't see how this can be related to new alternator.
