Radio only on when on, not in acc

Should the radio be on when in ACC mode? The wire that powers the radio only gets on when the key is ON. ACC does not make it hot.

if you're talking about the stock radio using unmodified stock wiring, yes the radio should work in the ACC position. if someone has changed the radio and/or wiring, who knows where the radio gets its power from.

The radio harness is stock. I'm putting in a new radio and was wondering about the ACC mode. I noticed it's never worked but since I haven't needed it in the past I haven't done anything about it. Could a bad relay or fuse cause this problem? Maybe a bad ignition switch?

Now that I know this is not normal operation I'm going to start looking for the problem.

bad ignition switch maybe. get out the VOM.

Get a multi meter, put it to the switched wire, check if it has power.
If I remember right, switched on Ford is Yellow/Black.

If it's not getting power, then koda is right.

The only wire I've tested is the one near the radio. It's only getting power when the key is on. All other positions give no power (Haven't tried start). I guess I need to check the ignition switch. I'm a little leery of working around the airbag with a multimeter though.

Is the switched yellow/black wire coming off the steering column?

The yellow/black(or purple) wire has no power in acc, run, lock or off. I can't really try start very easily, but I'm pretty sure the start wire is the red/lt blue wire.

Green/purple is hot in run.


I guess I'll try replacing the ignition switch next week when I put my rear view camera in.

I went ahead and replaced the ignition switch today. The old one has obviously been opens up at some point. The radio turns on in acc mode now.
