Hi all. My radio stopped working finally...its been an on\off process ever since i did some heavy driving in the rain\water. it started out by just loosing complet volume, having a slight ticking sound from the speaker when i would put the vol to the max. then it would come back and work for a few days and stop working again...now finally it has completley stopped working.

any suggestions??

Thanks

Pull the radio and check the connections in the back. Altho they are usually fairly secure something may have come loose...esp if the previous owner was back there messin' around. It's also possible that moisture may have collected in the connections...pull the connections and zap them with a blast of air or aim a hair dryer on low setting on the connectors. Also check your fuses including the ones under the hood.

You'll need a radio removal tool...set of two. You can pick the set up at WalMart for $3-$4 bucks. The tool will come in handy later when you pull the dash cluster gauge to replace burned out bulbs.

If that doesn't do it you get to go to Car Toys and upgrade your radio system...how fun is that!

Is this perhaps the same problem?

Saturday morning noticed a noise coming from my vehicle. Found it coming from all the speakers although the ignition was off. Pretty loud as I heard it from 30 feet away with the windows closed - sounded like distant gun firing range or marching band drums. Happened with the ignition on as well but NOT if the ignition and radio were both on. Did it again Sunday morning, then again today at noon - but doesn't seem to happen other times. Very intermittent which scares me thinking about taking it to the shop.

I'm thinking of pulling the radio fuse to see if that stops it - perhaps narrowing down the problem. I'm not even sure what to tell the shop.

The radio does have Sirius and we are close to a couple of military bases (which is why I initially thought of firing range). Not sure if that could be something - perhaps them playing with high powered radars or something.

Thanks for listening (reading).

Dave
