Year, Model & Trim Level
2002 Heavily Modified ST
So I brought my ST into our shop at 5pm yesterday. We diddnt leave till 1am.

Did a front diff flush, rear diff flush, transfer case flush, oil change, and coolant flush. That took alittle longer than expected.

Installed new black headlights and side markers, put 8k HIDs in the head lights. That was simple enough.

I bought a pioneer F700BT nav unit to put into the sport trac. Well hell, I modified the **** out of the radio bezel to accept the double din kit. Trimmed it, painted the bezel and installed that properly. That diddnt take that long.

Here is where I spent the next 5 hours. I have the Pioneer advanced system in my truck with the factory sub. The sweet blue LED lit radio. I bought the METRA 70-5701 which is the Ford Premium harness with RCA, which I figured was for the subwoofer.

I hook everything up, and for some reason Im not getting any sound out of the front speakers. And the RCA lines that go to the factory harness wasnt for the sub. It was for the front speaker channels. Does this make any sense to anyone? We could not figure it out for the life of me. Upon further inspection of the METRA harness, it looks like some wires diddnt match up with pins from the radio side of the harness.

If anything, the premium harness that turned the factory harness into RCA inputs should be for the subwoofer outputs for the radio - right?? Why the hell did the passenger front speaker only turn on when I put the front audio outputs from the radio into the RCA that was crated from the Metra harness? We couldnt figure it out for the life of us.

I sure hope I just ordered the wrong harness, but I have no clue. The other possibility is that the drivers front speaker is blown... but it was working prior to the Nav install.

Can anyone out there shed some light on what I need to do to get everything working properly? I have been doing car audio for years and I am completely stumped.

I should also mention that when I hook the factory radio back up, everything functions as it should. I am going to best buy to pick up a 70-5519 or 70-5517 harness, although I dont know if this will solve my problem.

Hopefully it's just a wrong harness issue and not a malfunctioning H.U., although it's new so it could be. If so, exchange it for another and see if that solves the issue if the harness doesn't.

Sorry man, with these kinda problems I either have to have already delt with the h.u. in question or be there in person for hands on work. Good luck man, let us know what happens.

Thanks. I hope its not the head unit...

Any update?
I've been considering putting in a nav head unit, and had looked at the F700bt as well, so i'm interested in any issues with this install.

no idea on how your setup should be, I've had a F700BT in my truck for a long time, I bought a harness adapter from Wallyworld, it had 3 different connectors on it. Ended up cutting off 2 of them since they were not needed. My truck had the stock (non-fancy) non-subwoofered deck in it though.

The harness for the sub is in the front passenger side kick panel. Not behind the radio. Not sure if that helps or not

In all honesty I would rip the POS factory sub out and get a nice and cheap 10" sub and amp. It'd make install a hell of a lot easier and sound 10000.64 times better.

If you decide to go with this then i would HIGHLY recommend buying from a seller on amazon called discountjungle i got my subs and amp from their THEY HAVE AMAZING PRICES and fast delivery. as i stated in my purchased forum i got my 2 10' 1000w subs from them for like 100 a piece then an amp for like 65 or 70 i believe

Yeah, I ended up taking it to best buy to figure it out. He ended up using an RCA adapter to wire harness, and had to repin one of the Metra harnesses to make it work. They dont make a plug and play harness for our truck.

He only charged $50 out the door for the additional adapter harness and to finish my install. Hard to complain with that.

Sounds good, glad you were able to get it figured out.

Do you have steps/pictures on how you trimmed up the radio bezel?
