Looking for a stereo wiring diagram for a 1991 ranger. Stock radio bad and trying to replace with aftermarket but not sure what wire is what in the harness. Can anyone help.

Hi. I bought a subscription for $9.99 for 8 days to Mitchell DIY, a division of Snap-ON and they have actual schematics and excellent procedures for just about anything.
They are at www.eautorepair.net
You can buy a longer subscription as well.

I'd suggest going on to crutchfield.com and looking for the wiring harness...I bought an adapter harness last year and only have good things to say...

To remove the stock radio I used 2 pieces of stiff wire bent into semi-circles and insterted them into the DIN slots on each corner of the radio...

Thank you! This is the closest so far but still have a couple of unaccounted for wires.

The answer to most of your questions can be found in the Audio section of this forum. But here is a quick listing,

1991 to 1994 Ford Explorer Wiring/Voltage to Radio

Constant 12V+ Green/Yellow
Switched 12V+ Yellow/Black
Ground Black
Illumination Blue/Red
Dimmer n/a
Amplifier Remote Blue
Antenna Right Front
Front Speakers 5" x 7" Doors
Left Front (+) Orange/Green
Left Front (-) Blue/White
Right Front (+) White/Green
Right Front (-) Green/Orange
Rear Speakers 5" x 7" Rear Doors
Left Rear (+) Pink/Green
Left Rear (-) Brown/Yellow
Right Rear (+) Orange/Red
Right Rear (-) Black/White

Read all the audio stuff. Sooner or later (probably sooner) you will need it all.
I just bought a Boss 638UA In-Dash CD/MP3 Receiver with Front Panel AUX Input & USB
for my 1992 Eddie Bauer Explorer with the JBL sound system. So I'll be writing about my success (I hope) or lack of it in the Audio section.

Keep in mind that the teh Radios are different between '91 and '94 and one of the Wires go into different Position in the harness.
