rain and bald tires dont mix

today pulling out of school after it had rained, i make a left and start to fish tail, i try steering into the swriv like they tell you in drivers ed, but endup fishtailing the other way, then i hop a curb, plow down a fence, go down a dirt hill into a construction area, and come 1 foot away from hitting a wall that was just built that day.

so now my rear passenger side bumper is ben in far enough to push my exaust pipe down 4 or 5 inches from stock position, my fron bumper is rubbing on my passenger tire, and both of the "running boards" (there not really stepable, there just the "caps") are completely scrapped to hell. and i dont know if its just me but i think my front passenger tire is out of allignment, when the steering wheel is straight, the drivers side is perfect, but the passenger side looks to be turned to the right by about an inch or so.

so now that i have let off steam, can anyone give me pointers on how to re do my bumpers to look somewhat good. and how to fix the mis alligned wheel? and possibly have a writup on how to build some sliders for a 99 xlt and tube bumpers (front and rear)?

(side note: go to chiropractor and have your spine realigned too... It's worth it after all of that, you are lucky to be uninjured - which means your spinal cord to the full impact...

i will post pics of the damage on the car and where it was that i lost controll, my buddy's dad is awar that alot of his friends will need body repair work, and he happens to work at a body shop, so i could get a pretty nice discount.

yeah, i should, my back was killing me all day today, i dont know what it could be.

im leaving today in about 15 minutes to go to colorado, so i wont be able to post any pictures until monday or tuesday.

Sorry to hear about your X. I've found even with fresh tires the torque these 4.0s produce is enough to kick it sideways easily in the rain/snow.

True that. I was turning in town on to a slick road, and fishtailed pretty bad, but saved it. Funny part was there was another explorer of the same year, and he fishtailed the same way. I imagine it would have been hilarious to see both of us do the same thing right after one another.

well first let me state that i am in the great state of colorado, and am going to be in fort collins, any places around that might be worth checking out?

and to answer your question on how fast i was going, the speed limit on the road that is in front of my school is 20 so i was doing 25 and when i approached the stop sign i didn't stop completely (i know should have done it) because i was trying to keep the traffic flowing, it sucks trying to pull out and every single person is coming to a complete stop. i was prolly doing 15 when it happend, i guess im not supposed to stomp on and hold the brake down, i could have saved it if i would've just let off the gas and hardly touched the brake.

nearly spun out on the highway doing 70 today on my way here to colorado (i was not driving), it started snowing and we lost the rear in my dads 2003 1500 Dodge ram, but he saved it, scared the living S**T out of me.

sorry to rant, havnt been on the computer for 15 hours or so.

i will post pics when i can figure out how to get them off of my phone without a data cable.

Try that with a real motor, mine will go sideways around a corner if I do anything more than lightly touch the throttle. And that's with AWD:

Yeah... Thats why i dont drive the Lightning in the rain, it'll just sit there and spin the tires if i touch the gas.

i need to get sliders, the pic does not do it justice, the paint is scraped down to the primer.

and the bumper. i might remove it and build a tire carrier/gas can/what ever else i can think of

oh yeah, its it an ENGINE not a motor, a motor is mostly elictrically powerd, and an ENGINE is gasoline, or is a combustion, (sorry, it jsut irritates me when one calles an internal combustion engine a motor.)

A motor is an object used to provide functionality to a moving object, or what controls movement of an object... In the context used by our friend from Kansas, the word motor was correctly applied.

It is true what you hear. I have GREAT tires on my X. But Whenever It rains And I try to come off a light. MASSIVE Wheelspin. Its gotten so bad I never gained grip I had to ease off the gas take it into 2nd and ease her out. I use it to my advantage when someone in a 4 banger thinks a 4.0L V6 cant beat em. It scares them crapless!

Also, Experience comes with driving longer. I've thrown my truck into similar situations. I drift it around a little (when its safe to) and I know my trucks limits.
