Getting new shocks, I have to get these gabriels off ASAP. Anyways, I see there is some kind of adjusting valve on these shocks but it looks like it is at the top of the shock. The fronts would be easy to get to, but the rears?? On 4wheelparts.com, they have the shocks only for 276.00, or a single dash controller system for 356.00
Since my Ex doesnt see a dirt road, let alone the off road here in FL, what do you think, shocks only or shocks and the controller. And anyone know what the controller is and difficulty hooking it up.
Got to get the order in by midnight sunday for free shipping.
Thanks, Marty

shocks

I thought 9000's had knob on the bottom? Anyway, if only for road use I would get them manual knobs, you probably won't adjuust much once installed.

I dont know, the picture I saw I thought it was the top, find out in a few days when they are in hand.

When you install the rs9000's on a first gen explorer the can of the shock goes "up" on the front wheels, and the can goes to the bottom on the rear wheels.

this means the knob is on the top for the front wheels, and on the bottom on the rear wheels. We have 80k+ on our rs9000's and haven't broken the knobs off yet (I have dented the can of 1 shock).

rs 9000's

Good information, appreciate it. :D

Nope, on my 5.5" lift the can goes on the bottom. The can goes on the top on some applications but you have to find the right shock. Otherwise they will burn out/up. I can reach all four of my shocks from the outside of the vehicle without to much problem.

I have heard bad things about the dash mount adjuster. I wouldn't waste my time/money on it.

I have had crap luck with four wheel parts and rancho 9000's. I have bought nearly everything from them no problem, but first one shock would not go past level 3, so they sent me a new one, charged my card, I installed it, had to call twice to get the old one picked up to credit my card, recieved cc bill, no credit yet, then realized that the other side was not working. I pulled it off the truck, put it to level 5 and can easily pull it back and forth. Sounds like a problem to me and I don't think it ever worked right. Called them, they were dicks about it and sent me to Rancho. I don't know if I got the shaft but so far the two original shocks I ordered were defective.

Oh yeah, the can goes on the bottom and they are easy to adjust. I just wish I had a set that worked on my truck. Currently running a set of skyjackers from a buddie's 4" lifted XJ.

The skyjackers, are those Hydros or Nitros, and what do you think? I have been thinking about the skyjackers myself, trying to keep all suspension parts from the same company:D

I guess I should have specified which rs9000's had the can up (for the front)..

The Rancho rs9000 shocks for a stock height first gen Explorer and for a 2.5" lifted first gen explorer (using rancho kit) have the can up for the front, and on the bottom for the rear.

i like the skyjackers.... for the X i would spend the extra money and get the nitro's insted of the hydros... beings they are a tad bit stiffer and the X is a tad bit more heavy....

I have skyjacker hydros. The ride is a little ruffer on normal street stuff (vs. stock shocks/height, I have no other references being that I have little money left), but when I hit the bigger dips and things, I often feel it less.

There's this one road I go on though that I feel like I'm constantly bouncing up and down on that I didn't before. And there's this one dip that used to jar the hell outta my stock X, but now I hit it and barely feel it. Don't even have to slow down and other people usually have to slow waaaayyy down.

So there's my 2 cents. Take it over leave it, it's up to you...

Skyjackers

Well it didn't take much to convince me on the nitros, I was debating between the rancho 5000's and the skyjackers, I've had rancho's before and never had a problem, but this time I will go with the skyjackers.
Thank for the input.:bounce: :bounce:

Got my Ranchos yesterday Fedex Ground from 4wheelparts.com - less than a week. I put them on in the rain last night in the driveway, thats how BAD I wanted those Gabriels off. Anyways, what a difference, started off on the #1 setting and driving to work this morning, the wife, who didnt know about the shocks yet, as we approach the RR tracks starts to brace herself for the impact. After we got across the tracks, she said, Oh, they must have finally fixed the tracks, its about time. Adjusted them to #2 tonight, thought #1 was a little too soft. Anyone want a set of 4, Gabriels, less than 2000 miles on them, you pay $20.00 plus shipping and they are yours !!
