Welcome to the forum, there is a great deal of information available if you do a search.

It's located on the right side of the transmission, beneath a heat shield that is protecting the servos and modulator from the convertor's heat. You can't really see it in this photo but you can see the shield and convertor.

What problems are you having with your transmission and why do you think it's the modulator?

I just had the rear main seal replaced and the mech called to say I needed to replace the VM.. being a woman I am just trying to figure out if I am being taken or if this is a real issue... he wants 80.00 more dollars to finish it??

It's hard to say, if you didn't know if your transmission was shifting strange or not. Would I pay $80 for replacing it, I think that's high. Call another shop and ask what they would charge to replace the VM. If the price is much different I'd ask your mech if he'd do it for the same amount. If not take it somewhere else. A VM costs $35 from NAPA in Canada, I suppose it might take half a hour to replace it.

Better yet, ask him why he thinks it needs replacing and come back here with his reasons...

there is an identical thread to this one going on right now. there is also a detailed description of this procedure in this section. It is easy if you have patience. It helps to have small arms and a mirror helped me tremendously. Finding and feeling the VM is the way to go. It is a one bolt removal and is easy if you know what you are looking for. Glacier has a great pic in his photos if you search. Look around and if you still need help please let us know.

Welcome to this forum! The easiest way to tell if the modulator is bad is to check the vacuum line for leaking fluid. This will let you know if the diaphragm is leaking. WWW.TransmissionPartsUSA.Com has modulators for about $12. Here's a picture from Glacier991's photo gallery:
