Do the X's (2nd gen) have any rated recovery points for snatch straps or winching?
At the moment I've been using - rear, Hayman Reese towbar (not the ball) & front the big loop that's welded onto the bottom of the front cross-member under the front diff.
I know the towbar is OK on the rear but not sure about the front.
Thanks :D

I hope this helps you and use a bridle to equal loads on the frame and don't yank because you could yank the hooks out of the slots..

Am after snatch strap points, don't know what you call them over there, to get you out of deep mud & sand bogs using the elasticity of the straps which are weight rated i.e. 8000, 9000 & 12000kg, but need to be horizontal (not vertical like tie down points). The "loop" attached to the front cross member is what I've been using as there are no stronger points on the chassis.

Tie down points are the same point I would hook to your truck if you where stuck but I use a bridle to even the loads on frame rails ...
I would not trust the front cross member to tug on if you where stuck and if you want a stronger tow point then make or buy a front hitch receiver..

the search engine is your friend, there are plenty of people that have add front hitches to their Xs that are easy to install, often dont require bumer trimming and can be used for a tow point as well as add an adapter for a front winch:salute:

balls and all

That loop on the front is sweet for snatching, I pull Idiots out of harms way at Stockton beach all the time with it, especially if you dont want to chop up the sand more by turning around.

I have a smallish property with plenty of trees, so after bad weather large branches fall down which need to be dragged off to the fire pit to be cut and burned. My point being that when I have to pull broken limbs out of trees, sometimes I have to pull so hard with the hayman reece towbar that the back wheels are a couple feet in the air with my foot buried in the carpet.

So contrary to popular belief and the usual bullshit from toyota drivers the front loop and hayman reece towbar are excellent recovery points.

You may want to "point the loop out" to people before going mudding because it is quite low, gets covered in mud and becomes hard to find for people who are unfamiliar with the Explorer.

The Americans on this site might not know about the "loop" we are talking about. I think it may have been an added extra on the Aussie Export models, but don't quote me on that..;)

I've done some pretty serious snatches of Tojo's & Nissans using the front loop & the Hayman reese bar, which by the way IS a heavy duty towpack when factory fitted, just wanted to know if front loop was rated for for such. I think your right though, about it being an Ozzie thing as they (Yanks) don't seem to know what we're talking about LOL & our X's seem to be more a heavy duty unit than the American one i.e. only come out with the heaviest suspension they come with.
