Ok...The rattle is still there...here is a summary:

Changed both differential fluids, and the transfer case fluid to see if I could get this sound to go away...it didn't. The rattle doesn't happen all of the time. But when it odes happen, it happens whether I accelerate or let my foot off the gas. It also stays when I turn the car. Like I said, it comes and goes...probably only there 5% of the time I drive. When it is there, it sounds like a spinning ratchet.

It doesn't affect performance in anyway...just annoying as hell. Anyone have any thoughts??

Thanks!!!

parking brake?

I second this. I just had a very similiar rattle to what you described on my jeep liberty. (About the same as the Ex, parking brake inside the rotor) I pulled off the rotor and the parking brake pads fell out (or what was left of them.) Replaced the pads and no more noise.

This is probably a dumb question...but are the parking brake pads only on the back of the car? Should I pull off both back rotors? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Yes only on the back. I forget (been a long time since I did the parking brake on my ex) if the parking brake is one side or both. But I am thinking it is the Passenger rear side since that is the side I worked on.

That is exactly where the noise is coming from! I'll keep you posted!
