Hey Everybody, thought you guys would be able to help me out with my problem. I have a 1998 explorer and since I purchased it I have done several modifications to the truck including TT and rear shackles. I love it being lifted but since I have done the lift I have been noticing a rattling coming from the front right/ smetimes the left. My old 1997 explorer had a similar problem and I had t replace the sway bar end links, but on the 98 the sway bar seems to be solid. As far as when I checked it. I need some advice on what this is because it is driving me nuts!
Thanks
Moose

Same here!

I have a 97 XLT. It sounds like a "muffled-popping" sound when I go over the smallest imperfection on the road.

I have a feeling it's the CV Joint. I really have to get it looked at. I'm just scared to find out how much it would cost me. I'm hoping a little wheel allignment would fix it.

I have the same problem and am confident that I traced it to the shocks being worn out. The ride has gotten all weird and when I'm driving slow across a parking lot slowly it creeks and groans.

It didn't help matters that a few years ago I was screwing around in a snowy parking lot and hit a curb headl on going about 35-40 mph. I launched about 3 feet in the air my friends said who were in another car watching. Scared me ****less!!!

You should all check your ball joints if you havent already.

I am having the same problem. Sometime I get a rattle when I just turn it on for a split second. But when i am accelerating between 20 and 35 mph is when i hear it really badly. It's around the 1500 to 3000 RPM range but when I get above 35 MPH and 3000 RPM it quits. I have no idea what it is.. Sounds like something with the exhaust but everthing seems to be perfectly intact. I have already replaced the lower ball joints. Swar bar is fine.. but it does it sometimes when i just turn it on.. I have no idea.. I am going out to look better

Well I finally think I figured out what my rattling sound is.. and it's just what I thought it would be. Appears when I was in Moab a couple of weeks ago I must have bent my exhaust pipe a little and now my pipe is bumping next to one of the bolts that holds the heat shield on.

Glad it was something quick and easy to fix.

The thing that scared me was because it was the exhaust it made it sound like it was under the hood. but it was just echoing ;)
