Hey all,
I picked up an 03 Explorer EB 4.6L last week on the cheap.
It has a knocking / rattling coming from the front of the transmission, right where it meets the block.
I initially thought it was a bearing noise but since figured out it was coming from the transmission.
The noise can be heard at idle. However, it's much louder under load up to 2k RPM.
It shifts and drives fine.
I took it to the Ford dealer today. They confirmed it was coming from the transmission. They confirmed all torque converter bolts are solid. They said they suspect the front pump is damaged and possibly the torque convert and flex plate.
They also noted the transmission had been removed recently.
Has anyone run into an issue like this? Would I be looking at replacing the tranny if there's an issue with the pump?
Here's a video of the noise. This was taken while I was thinking it was bearing related so I do go all the way under to the transmission.
