I have a 2000 Explorer XLT with a SOHC V6 and it makes a very loud rattling noise when idling. The noise seems to be coming from underneath near the wheel well, specially on the driver side. Does anybody have any idea?

Also, my rear windshield wiper doesn't work sometimes, but you can hear and feel the motor on.

Thanks for the help!

when i had my stock exhaust on my 99 sport it had a rattling noise when idling to it was my exhaust the way i found it was i push down on the tail pipe and it would stop try that

Could be a lot of things but the first thing I'd check is the heat shields on the exhaust. Mine had a loud rattle at idle or when stopped while in gear and it turned out to be the heat shields.

Thanks, I'll try pushing down on the tail pipe next time but was the noise on your Explorer coming from the wheel well on the driver side?

The awfully loud rattling noise is coming from the exhaust!

Thanks
