this rattling noise occurs only at 3000 rpm's. No higher or no lower. Pretty sure its coming from the engine.Anyone else had this problem?

I'd Appreciate the info

Matt

3000 rpms under acceleration, cruising, or coasting. sound like a metal rattle, plastic, marbles? try to give us some more info so we can help.

when i am accelerating. And if it was someting rattling why wouldnt it happen over 3000 rpm's accelerating

this is a strange situation

I have a 98 sohc that rattles between 2300 and 2800 rpm. It sounds like metal rattling, and only does it on acceleration. I think it might be something to do with either the cam chain guide or the cam tensioner.

do u plan on leaving it like that or fixing it. Does it affect your performance. I cant tell

a fix

there is a ford "program" that came out 4.15.02.

a permanent fix. it involves changing 7 pieces of/and the rear chain tensioner [i think]. it is much more involved.

check with your ford dealer, there is a fix and if you're not over so many miles, they will do it.

do a "search" on "timing chain tensioners".

i had this done on my '00, AFTER the initial front timing chain tensioner work was done.

As far as I can tell, it doesn't affect performance, but I definitely want to get it fixed before it breaks. I took it to a ford dealer, and they said not to worry about it. I think I will be going to a different dealer.

My 98 SOHC does that too at a certain point during mild acceleration. I'll have to see whats out there for timing chain stuff since i'm out of warranty, I had the front ones done already.

How much to have the front ones done? The rear?

Have you checked your heat shields?? make sure they are not loose. Sometimes the vibrations at a certain RMP is just right to make them shake rattle and annoy.

this is a warranty issue

gonzo

it is NOT your heat shields.

i had this done on 2 trucks, i know what i'm talking about.

if you're not over 100,000 miles this won't cost you anything.

tell the ford dealer you want it done.

talk to general mgr or owner of the dealership if you have to.

this will fix a problem that ford knows about.

the longer you wait, the less chance you have to get it done and ford pick up the tab.

it's your truck,do what you want...
