:fire: Ive gotten all of the body bolts out except the front passenger core mount....took the nut off the top fine, but the bolt refuses to drop out of the hole. it will just turn and turn pulling the bushings with it. The whole thing just turns in place. Ive tried hammering, heating, impact gun, a can full of PB, and a crowbar....nothing. Any suggestions on how to get this stupid ass bolt out? I would like to get this crap finished up tmw. :fire:

body bolt

The bushing is threaded, you need to get a big pipe wrench to hold the bushing while you un screw the bolt. Also a bottle jack under the bushing jacked up usually holds it from spinning. Or last reaort is a pair of vice grips that I didnt have much luck with. The pipe wrench works best.

we cut mine and then took the whole bushing out and put it in a vice and unscrewed it that way...had to do that to both.

where did you cut it at? The bolt seems to be stuck somehere in the bushings...

i'm trying to think now...i know we cut it so that we could take the bushing off the truck and work on it on the bench. i think we cut the head of it off or somthing like that..it was a few months ago now.

how many of the mounts did you need to drill out for the 2 inch?

just the 2 core mount bushings need to be drilled out to 1"

ok, im done....i drilled all the mounts out to 1/2" so the bolts dropped through to the heads....and all my bolts were the correct lenghts, but i wasnt supplied with any nuts so i had to go buy some. I guess you win some and loose some. ;)

27 hours.

Actually, and before Dman says it, the first one I did took me over week. :p

Did you fix the bumpers yet?

the rear bumper isnt fixed (didnt have time to notch the bumper out) and the front is just off since im selling it. I know how to fix that too though. It took us a while, but we were goofing off most of the time.

you dont have to notch the rear bumper

you do not have to notch the rear bumper. just add a few washers between the actual bumber and the 'L' bracket that bolts stright to the bumber.

The washers go under the L' Bracket

Here the 'L' bracket is now installed on top of the washers.

This pushes the bumper out just a little and the side gaps do not look bad at all. You can see it is just a bit larger than normal but it looks fine to me..

front body bolts

NO they are not pressed on. They are threaded thru the bushing with a nut on the top.

The front bolts were to me the hardest, the rest were really easy. For the front i used a really long extention on my socket and went down thru the whole in the body next to the radiator. I did this to get the NUT off the top of the bolt. Then I took off the front bumper and used a really big pipe wrench to get a hold of the bushing. ( the pipe wrench is like 22 inches long.??) I connected the pipe wrench and then let it spin around and hit the frame, then my wife held it in place. I then used a 1/2 inch socket wrench and a meter long ( yard long) pipe over the handle of the socket wrench. A big spray of wd40 and away she went. It was a struggle I guarantee it, but slowly but surely the bolts came off.

Shes a fun one those front bolts, If I had a gas cutting tool I proably would have gotten pissed off and cut them off. But down here getting anything for the Explorer is a PITA. And cutting them off would be a bigger problem for me.

The front mounts (#1)
These mounts are different from the other mounts in that their bolts mount from the bottom instead of the top and more importantly the upper flanged washer is also threaded. I soaked the threads with PB Blaster and used an impact gun to work the bolt loose (1st pic). The bolt would only come out a few threads before getting stuck. I would soak all exposed threads tighten the bolt and then loosen it. After a few minutes This back and forth motion eventually exposed the lower threads. I soaked them and repeated the process until the bolt was extracted (total time 10 min). In the 2nd pic the lower bushing is removed. I then used a 1/2" Cobalt drill bit to drill through the center of the mount (using WD-40 as a lubricant) to clear the way for the replacement 1/2" bolt.

See my Daystar Body Bushing thread for related info and pics.

I don't know about an X, but when I replaced all body mounts, rebuilt the some of the steel mounts that the mounts and lift kit sat on because of rust. Remember this is an 84 truck thats seen a lot of bad winters and a lot of road salt. There wasn't one bolt that came out easy. Some act like they were welded. Those all I did was to take a recipicating saw and cut between the rubber bushings and thru bolt. Then just pryied them out. If I remember correctly on one the top half of bolt came out but the bottom was still stuck. Then I just put a metal rod of some sort thru top and drove it out. One other thing I do remember now cutting some of the rubber bushings at a diagonal in half from top to bottom and was able to take rubber mount off to expose bolt which I cut with the saw. Then it was a trip to Tractor Supply for new washers. I even used their bolts.

Here is one with a new piece of metal on bracket that I drilled for bolt that the new hard body mount and 3" lift is on. Later on I grinded the 3/16" plate to match bracket, welded and cut off the bolt that I got at Tractor Supply.

Derocha, i called Ford for the bushings, P# F27a1000192ga has been discontinued and to get F17a1000193EA is only in PA. So i called daystar and they said call napa. I looked at your other thread and can not see how you rebiult the front mounts. I am thinking of cutting everything out and getting Starboard it is used in marine apps. shape the round pucks 1/2" thick, one on of side of the mount drill a hole on the center the put the large washers back, it that good?
